Tips to Clean Your Camera Lens The Right Way

Camera owners know how important it is to clean the camera lens from time to time. Dirty optics can significantly affect the quality of the images clicked. Dust, grime, grease, and other elements may find their way onto the camera lens. If these elements are on the front, they may be unnoticeable in the photos but if these are on the back or on either side, they can affect the quality of the picture clicked from the camera, making it absolutely necessary to clean the camera lens. However, the cleaning process is tricky as cleaning too often or too little increases the risk of getting scratches on the lens. Worry not! Here are some easy tips to keep your camera lens squeaky clean:

1- Use a skylight filter: This is one tip that all camera users must follow. Always choose a skylight filter for your camera and keep it attached to the lens at all times. It will protect the lens from breakage and any kind of scratches. This is because when you clean the lens, you will actually be cleaning the filter unless dust particles get right in. Do note that there are a variety of filters available in the market so if you have recently purchased the latest digital camera with a high-end lens, make sure you purchase a high-end filter for it as well.

2- Make use of lens cleaning fluid: Lens cleaning fluid is another great option and is easily available at camera stores. The alcohol-based fluid is very useful in removing smudges and fingerprints from the lens without leaving any mark on the lens as well as the filter. All you need to do is take a cleaning tissue, put 1-2 drops (don't use too much) on it, and gently wipe the lens with it in a circular motion. Do note that you need to apply the fluid on the tissue only and not directly on the lens.

3- Blowers can be of help: You can also clean the dust off your interchangeable camera lens with the help of a blower. However, you need to be very careful to ensure that you do not blow saliva and condensation onto the lens. Hold it close to the lens without touching it. It is advised to clean the blower first to ensure it does not have any dust particles on it. This can be done by squeezing a few puffs away from the surface of the lens.
Remember, camera lenses are very sensitive, and cleaning them too often can cause damage. Follow the above tips and clean the lens only when it is absolutely necessary.
