The truth behind the fashion!( what no one will admit)

I'm sure I'm about to break all sorts of unspoken rules right now, but frankly I don't care. The truth is the truth anyway you slice it. The more I try to understand fashion, the more I realize it's not much to understand. Everyone want to make predictions on the next trends, or the items that are going to be hot for the next season. Its such garbage. Picking trends accurately is about as hard as it is to throw a penny into a glass on the other side of the room. I often wondered about who these people are predicting these styles. People who canvas the web looking for fashion people in different companies and somehow magically derive a few random things that they assume in there mind will look good while there sitting at there computer and probably don't plan to where any of the things they speak of. Could it be compared to a coach who was never any good at the sport he decides to coach but decides to read a book and now feels he is equipped to instruct players on how the game is played? What's my point? My point is while this type of trend forecasting may have worked in the past I do believe the formula for establishing the next hottest trends have changed considerably. It will not make you money following these out dated strategies.

The internet controls peoples lives now. The ability to enter someone's world is now at the touch of a button. Thought leader ship is at an all time high now because reaching or finding your demographic is so easily done. Once your opinions are expressed and then sent out over the net, all one has to do is sit back and wait to see if people agree or don't agree. Regardless you have people listening and paying attention so either way to some degree your task has been accomplished. This leads me to my next point. Whom ever can canvas the internet with the most material controls the market place. People are fans of what they see the most, and whether it resonates with cool people. These are actually the only 2 things that matter these days. Internet and social popularity sale clothes. Thats it. Try and make it calculated and scientific if you want to. Your wasting time and energy. When the internet push and win the race. If your smart you will create a following on line and then present your ideas to the masses for feedback. I promise they will let you know immediately. Bottom line. Don't let these so-called fashion guru's fool you. Your answers are now a click away.

fashion is very relative.
the only trend i have seen worldwide is the mxing up of clothing in a hodge padge sort of way.
sometimes it works brilliantly, other times it seems as though the wearer grabbed every article from their wardrobe.
i would like to see something new come along..
by this i mean not re-invented fashion, which has been going on for the past few years..but something new & fresh..to make one say WOW.

when was the last time fashion really rocked the world, evoking a major reaction? somewhere between shock & creativity.
miniskirts in the 60's.
punk in the late 70's.

what is the next horizon for apparel?
or will the next horizon be textiles?

Thanks for the post. I agree with a large portion of your comments. Not all, but most. Again, thanks for the thought prevoking post. I agree with you, "Picking trends accurately is about as hard as it is to throw a penny into a glass on the other side of the room".

Interesting observation... there is really no predicting fashion as it is fickle. The question is : HOW DO YOU....create a following on line and then present your ideas to the masses for feedback ? Easier said than done, right ?
