Headed To the Tropics

When you look at clothing trends, especially on the latest models, you'll see that designers like Prada and Marc Jacobs have stepped into a tropical oasis. From bright colors to bold patterns with flowers, these same designs will be seen in homes across the country as furniture designers and companies that make decorations are following suit. Most of the tropical designs will be with wallpaper and fabrics that you can use to upholster couches and chairs or even make cushions with to add a vibrant look to larger furniture pieces.

Adding Texture

Plain and simple designs aren't as popular as adding texture to the home. Start out with a brushed metal lamp or delicate textures on the walls. Wool throws are an option to go over the back of the couch. The idea is to blend different fabrics and materials together to create a variety of textures in the same room. When you have everything in place, the textures add depth instead of the room being simple and monotone.

Neutral Colors

There was a time not long ago that bright colors were the talk of furniture and decorations. The latest theme is neutral colors once again. From white and beige to pale pinks, lighter shades are a popular trend once again. The base of the room should be a neutral color with hints of one or two other colors, especially brass or silver, as accents.

Crafted Furniture Designs

Instead of getting a piece of furniture that everyone else has in their home, get a crafted piece that fits your personality. An example would be a coffee table made with intricate designs and a few images on the sides that bring out what you enjoy. Look for furniture designs that are more of an investment and that are made of a higher quality instead of furniture that will only last for a short time.

Shaping Up

Geometric lines and shapes are going to remain a theme to use in the home. Look for the designs more with pillows and accent pieces instead of with larger pieces of furniture. A large rug with geometric shapes would be a nice addition to a living room with neutral base colors.

Your home should be a place where you feel comfortable with the design. With a few modern themes, you can have a home that you are pleased to show to others. If you’re not sure where to begin, take some inspiration from sites such as Modern Home 2 Go and other furniture retailers that stock modern and contemporary furniture. Remember to start small, adding more details as you see where you can add them in each room of the home.
