Tussar silk also known as (Sanskrit) Kosa silk is produced from larvae of several species of silkworms, all produced in sustainable and organic farms by our partners and woven across our channels to get the best quality to you. Tussar silk is valued for its rich texture and natural deep gold color, we endeavor to add designs that complement this natural style and add more value to it.

What is the difference between Bhagalpuri Silk & Tassar Silk?

Most of the production of Tassar Silk happens in the city of Bhagalpur, Bihar. Over the years, the tassar silk became synonymous with Bhagalpuri Silk. However, apart from maybe geographic specification, both are the same!

Why is Tassar Silk so famous?

Tussar silk sarees have a natural dull gold colour, which make them a great choice for Indian weddings.  While Tussar is more textured than mulberry silk, its shorter fibres make it less durable. The porous fabric makes Tussar a comfortable choice even in our warm Indian summers.

What should Tassar Silk Cost?

It takes 3 days for our craftsmen to make 10 Meters of Tassar Silk Fabric. While the making of the thread is cheaper as this silk is obtained from worms that do not breed on mulberry trees but breed on local trees like Sal, Arjun and Saja, the weaving adds to the cost. #Funfact: Because the silk worms are bred on wild trees they are also called as ‘Wild Silk’. Tussar Silk is less expensive and durable as compared to cultivated silk because of its short fibre length. The average cost of Tassar Silk, without any works can be upwards of 2000.

What goes well with Tassar Silk? Types of Tassar Silk

The dull gold texture of Bhagalpuri Silk makes it perfect for Indian Weddings, additional works like the famous Katha Embroidery Of West Bengal or Pattachitra along with print motifs can add massive value to the saree. This fabric can be further divided into various subcategories like Katia, Ghhichha. To know more about it, go here.

Lastly, how to maintain Bhagalpuri Silk?

Its easy to maintain a silk tassar saree, but here are some pointers-

  1. Dry Clean is the best bet. Once every 6 months will do.
  2.  Allow the fabric to breathe, don’t store in damp places.

Final Thoughts:

In order to test the authenticity of Tassar Silk, you can see the dull golden texture or for a better proof, take a few threads from the warp and the weft and set their ends alight. When they are fully burnt, smell the ash. If it smells like burnt hair, you have just burnt some pure silk.
