There is nothing worse than showing up somewhere and seeing someone wearing the exact same outfit as you. This often happens when one shops at the mall or big box retailers. It can be embarrassing and a hard situation to handle. Plus, there is always the fear that they are wearing it better than you.

We all want to create our own fashion wardrobe, but sometimes time and money get in our way. To get a truly distinct style, you are going to have to change where and how you purchase clothing. It is important to try new styles, colors, and cuts. Most importantly, don’t shop where everyone else is shopping. There is safety in shopping with brand names, but it is limiting.

Vintage or Thrift

One way to ensure that your outfit is unique is to buy vintage items. If you go to a small boutique that sells curated vintage pieces, you will always walk away with something fun and stylish. Thrift stores are also a great way to find interesting one-of-a-kind finds to add to your wardrobe. Thrift stores are usually cheaper, but you need to dig and it can be hit or miss.

Online Boutiques

More and more small, cute boutiques are opening up online. This is the best way to find special items. Many boutiques, like Simple Addiction, carry a variety of brands or make the garments themselves. Shopping online is easy and fun. With filters, you can look for specific items without searching the whole store. If you need a floral blouse, just search for it. It is that easy. With the range of product and the convenience of at-home delivery, online shopping is the best overall option. If you have not heard of the company, try it. You might find your next favorite brand.

Tailor It

Another way to have items that are yours and yours alone is to make them yourself or have them tailored. Having an item tailored to your body ensures it is unique and made just for you. If you know how to sew, make your own clothes. You can be sure no one else will have the same item. Maybe your friends will ask you to sew for them too!

If you do end up being twinsies, don’t panic. You can laugh it off, compliment their style or ignore it. However, it is fun to truly own your style. Buying clothing from small boutiques is the best way to ensure you don’t have a twin out there. Clothing is meant to be fun, so play around and try something new.
