Surprising judgment of the German court

  • The group of ultra-conservative Islamists in Wuppertal "Shari police" was acquitted
  • The prosecutor's office tried to prove that the accused illegally impersonated the uniformed services.
  • The court decided, however, that the reflective vestswith the inscription "Shari Police" were not sufficiently similar to the actual uniforms used.

Focused around the German Muslim Sven Lau, a group of self-styled Islamic "police officers" has just been acquitted. Men in 2014 in German Wuppertal persuaded people to give up drinking, gambling and listening to music. The accused were unlawfully impersonated under uniformed services.

However, the prosecutor's office had some problems with arguing his charge. The court found that the uniforms used by the "Shari Police" did not resemble police neither reflective uniforms at all, nor are they particularly intimidating.

The group belongs to the movement of the Sulfites, an extremely conservative and reformist trend within the largest faction of Islam, Sunnis. Salamis, in turn, has emerged as the fundamentalism on which modern Islamic terrorism is based.
