Everyone is capable of looking fashion-forward whether they are slim, average, or plus size. Plus size individuals however, particularly men, do have a harder time finding stylish outfits that fit their body type. Also, finding accessories to go with their clothing can be challenging. So here’s some style tips for plus size men that will have them looking and feeling like a new person.

Wear Center Crease Trousers

Not only are center crease trousers highly fashionable, they also cause the person wearing them to look slimmer and taller. There is no need to search in stores for a pair of these trousers, they can be easily created at home with a simple ironing technique. Men should wear these pants over their waist if they want to achieve a taller look. Center crease trousers add sophistication and class to an outfit and look very flattering.

Wear a Well-Fitting Undershirt

In order to create a slimming effect, plus size men should wear well-fitting undershirts. An ill-fitting undershirt can cause one to look unprofessional and poorly dressed. Some men feel as if fitted clothing makes them look bigger, but that is not the case. According to Underfit, close fitting clothes or baggy shirts can add 15 lbs or more to your appearance — and can be uncomfortable to boot.

Layer Clothing

The more layers of clothing a person has, the slimmer they will look. A dark jacket placed overtop a light undershirt creates a well visible vertical line, causing one to look narrow and tall. The outerwear should be longer than the inner layer(s) to avoid drawing attention to the waist. Layering makes a person look practical and stylish, not to mention layering can turn a casual outfit into semi-formal apparel.

Wear Your Best Colors

It is well known that certain colors can make a person look slimmer. Black clothing is a popular choice for plus size individuals, but dark greens, reds, greys, and browns have the same slimming effect. Too much dark can make it obvious that someone is trying to hide their shape; adding a light layer underneath dark clothing can lighten things up a bit and will look more stylish. Small patterns like narrow pinstripe can also make a difference.

Choose the Right Accessories

Accessories can make or break an outfit. Choosing the right fashion accessories is important for bigger men, as they can draw attention to certain areas and keep eyes off of the critical areas. A nice watch, a stylish hat, a scarf, or even a pair of glasses can help a man look well put together and professional, without drawing attention to the waist. They should avoid wearing belts as they can accentuate the waistline. Wearing accessories can make a person look as if they chose their outfit wisely and care about the way they look.

"It's Not What You Wear, It's How You Wear It."

Tailoring is a big part of creating the perfect clothing for plus size men. Bigger men have a harder time finding suits that fit them just right. In order to make an outfit look more flattering, one should take the wardrobe to a tailor and have them professionally designed, cut, fit, and finished. The tailor will cut the sleeve and leg lengths to the correct size, adjust the chest size, create the perfect collar; they will simply create perfect clothing.

Let’s Sum it Up

  • Bigger men should wear center crease trousers

  • They should wear well-fitted undershirts

  • Layered clothing makes one look slimmer

  • Dark colors are the way to go

  • Accessories are a bigger man's best friend
