Spring 09 Trend watch

This spring fashion has something for everyone. There are many trends, many colors and many different styles. All these can get a little confusing and overwhelming. So you have to pick and choose which trend will work for you and which one won't. You will see some of these trends on the Oscar's red carpet tonight.Trust me, some of these new trends and fashion that you see in the magazines belongs just to that, pages of the magazines and the runways of Milan and New York. So we are going to tackle those new spring trends that could work their way in to our closets, and I urge you to test your own boundaries and embrace the unexpected, as long as you know how to wear the trends for your shape and your age. From the return of shoulder pads and jump suits to sheer fabrics, nothing is off limits this spring.Yes, strong shoulders are back. You’ll see them on jackets and some dresses. Those of you with triangle shape, narrower shoulders and bigger hips, should take advantage of this as you can balance your smaller shoulders and bigger hips with the help of shoulder pads. You don't have to too go big, small ones would work as well. You won’t see a shortage of fringe and ruffled EVERYTHING in the stores this season. You probably have noticed this trend everywhere you turn. Texture is big this spring. Whether it’s with embellishments, fringe or ruffles. For some of you wearing a fringe dress might be too 1920’s flapper and not your favorite kind of look; but if you still want to look like you know what’s trendy, no worries, All you have to do is to look for an accessory with fringe on it. A bag with some fringe, a fringe shoe which will look fabulous with a simple dress, fringe boots, or perhaps a fringe belt.Ruffles, we see them, on anything and everything this season. A ruffle top can dress up jeans quickly and give you a very romantic and a feminine look. You would not have any problem finding ruffled dresses, shirts and yes even shoes and bags anywhere, no matter where you shop at, Neiman Marcus or H&M.If ruffles are too girly for your personality, stick with a clutch that has a little ruffled look and skip the ruffle shirt and dress.Transparency is IN and sheer fabrics are a fashion statement this spring. Needless to say, if you do choose to wear a sheer fabric, do not forget the body suite or a tank underneath. And NO, bra is not a layering piece. However you can be playful and fun with what you wear under. It doesn’t have to be the exact same color as the sheer fabric. For example wearing a white camisole under a black sheer shirt, gives it a fresh, modern look. Try red or yellow under gray or white sheer material. Make it interesting and unpredictable.I am not sure how many of you will go for this 80’s come back but if you do decide to step in that territory you should know a few rules about how to wear Jumpsuits.KEEP IT SIMPLE. No big 80’s style hair do. Dress it up with a belt, open toe pumps and a clutch or Pair it with flat sandals to dress it down. Stay away from the bright colors and loud prints; your jumpsuit will make a statement on its own. Jumpsuits are easy to wear and can make you look long and lean.Print flowy blouses are an obvious match for jeans but these feminine pieces look even more hip than a camisole or shirt under a tailored jacket. Just remember to skip the loose pants or full skirts or you will get lost in the volume. As far as shoes go, fringe sandals and ruffled heels are going to be everywhere. Pair them with simple shorts or a simple dress and let the shoe do the talking.Don’t forget about the gladiator style shoes. They will be around for a little longer. As the weather gets warmer, replace the chunky winter scarves for a more season appropriate ones. This season, silk scarves are HOT…. They are the easiest way possible to add some color, pattern and fun to any outfit as you run out the door.Bold colors are everywhere for this spring but for those days we don’t feel so bold and bright, Nude is the new IT color. From shoes to dresses and even Nail polish. Nude is the new must have color. There are other trends that are going to pop up this spring such as; Bulky, statement jewelry, Safari look, full mini skirts, hourglass dresses, un-classic jackets, the return of jean jacket and many more. I highlighted those trends that are more practical and we are going to see the most.We all want to look on top of our games, stylish and put together; but with so many trends, so many options, which one to get and which one to skip? Especially in this less than perfect economy. When shopping remember a few rules; “CPW”, Cost per wear. How many times are you going to wear a piece? Can you wear it with multiple pieces? Can you work it in your existing wardrobe? Or is it only a trend that will be replaced before you have a chance to take the tag off?Trend is for now but Style is forever.. So invest in pieces that are going to last longer than a season or two.Buy less, buy best, buy smart. Instead of buying ten pieces that won’t go together and don’t have the best quality, buy fewer pieces that are classic, well made and will work with many other items.Fortunately, these days style and fashion is available for anyone with any budget. You don’t have to spend a fortune to look trendy and up to date, and you should not, because trends don’t last. If Saks fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus doesn’t work for your budget don’t be disappointed. There are many other options out there.
