Sophisticated and Classy Tanchoi Sarees

Tanchoi is the name given to a specialized weaving technique that is done on silk. The reason that this technique is different from all others in India is because it uses single or double colors in the warp threads and two to five colors on the weft thread. However, all these variations fall under the same hue.

The history of Tanchoi silk can be traced to China, which was brought to India by direct trade with Chinese craftsmen as well as Persian craftsmen who imbibed this art from the Chinese and eventually came to settle in Gujarat. The fabric is said to have been molded to suit Indian tastes, thus bringing about the Tanchoi Silk Saree.

Currently, there are over five variants of Benarasi Tanchoi Sarees, of which the four most renowned ones are Satin Tanchoi, Satin Jari Tanchoi, Atlas or Gilt and Mushabbar.

Besides the weaving technique, the other specialty of the saree is the motifs that are woven into the material. Of these, the most recognized ones are that of blossoms, peacocks, parrots and other small birds in flight. It is woven in such a way that the fabric naturally has some spots on it, which makes for interesting visual aesthetics. Overall, the patterns that are woven into this material are drawn heavily from nature. Besides these, there is one more factor that sets this fabric apart. The textile has a satin finish to it, which gives it a smooth and silken texture. Beautiful and exquisite to behold, Tanchoi sarees are famed the world over.
