Simplicity and modesty are always the most important concerns in Islamic clothing. Some of the most common outfits for Muslim women include abayas, jilbabs, kurtis and salwar kameez. For Muslim men, kurtas and kameez are the common dresses. Apart from their normal clothing, Muslim women also have to wear veils, in order to cover their head and body. Burqa, niqab and hijab are the common veils. 'Hijab' is not only the name of a veil but also a term which explains the act of covering the body. Furthermore, there are different kinds of hijabs such as shayla, al amira, chador and khimar. While some of these veils cover the head and neck alone, some others cover the body till waist, or ankle.

With the change in trends, Islamic outfits have become more popular. Moreover, many E-commerce websites sell these dresses. Consequently, it has become very simple for one to buy niqab, jilbab or abaya online.

Significance of Islamic Veils

Veils such as burqa and niqab have an Islamic origin. The practice of wearing these veils has been around for several decades. According to Islamic texts, Muslim men and women strictly need to follow the concept of hijab, which means covering the body. This is why full body coverage is a common feature in every Islamic outfit. Islamic scholars have clearly made it compulsory for Muslim women to wear hijab, burqa and niqab on a regular basis. Depending on personal taste, the choice of veil among Muslim women varies. It can either be a burqa, niqab, or a hijab.

Types of Veils

Here are the different types of veils worn by Muslim women and their main features.

  • Hijab:  Hijab is basically a scarf. It is the most commonly worn of Islamic veil. It covers the head and neck, leaving the face. There are many different styles of wearing a hijab. It can either have one piece or two pieces of cloth.
  • Al Amira: This is a two-piece hijab. It features a tube-like scarf along with a close-fitting cap. It is usually designed from polyester or cotton.
