Pre-Fall Collections

This is the full post from my vintage fashion blog, at apocalypsevintage.com/blogSo I just started checking out some pre-fall collections, as I was looking forward to summer too much right after most of them were shown on the runway. I started a lookbook on style.com with my faves. Click on one of the photos below or the link on the right to check it out. I'm particularly excited about Alexander McQueen's collection: lots of wool and furs in absolutely gorgeous silhouettes that combine draping and tailored cuts. Fantastic palette and exquisite tailoringHere are a few of my faves:This look is so completely fabulous, I love everything about it. Each piece playing off every other piece in the most perfect way. The capelet with blazer-like tailoring on the front is absolutely TO DIE FOR. And I love the continuing double-breasted buttons that continue from the vest to the skirt. The accessories in all these looks are so perfect. This wide scarf-like tie with that high-collar blouse, so hot! I'm excited that menswear-influenced hats are making it in so much more frequently these days. And the walking sticks! This second photo is one of my other favorites, in which they opted for the even more daring and alluring riding crop. Dirty! So perfectly tailored, yet again with that great structured draping that sets it apart.Such a fantastic shade of olive, and the fox fur is added in so casually and luxuriously. Perfect! It seems like a lot of designers are looking to the 30s and 40s to inspire their looks for the fall. This collection, is definitely 19th-century-inspired in its silhouettes, but to me some of the pieces (like those pictured here) really scream late 1930s and early 1940s with their color palettes and textures. Perhaps in the midst of this recession/depression designers are looking back to the last comparable depression for their inspiration? It can't just be the upcoming release of Sherlock Holmes (which, btw I'm totally excited about, some fantastic fashion will be seen for sure!). Whatever the reason they're creating some really beautiful looks that manage to be daring and exciting with palettes and textures that at other times might be considered drab.Lastly, check out this absolutely stunning black velvet gown:I absolutely love velvet when it's used right, and this is the most amazing velvet piece I've seen in a long time. To have it drape so perfectly while still having visually enticing folds is SO HARD. And I absolutely cannot get over those sleeves. If I could afford this dress I would be wearing it almost every day this fall. It just looks so incredibly comfortable and yet so glamorous and chic at the same time. I would probably want to add some silver accessories in to brighten it up just a bit.So there's my fave three of the collection! Go to the lookbook for more, or check out the full collection. It's definitely worth checking out. There's also more looks from other designers in my lookbook, including Diane von Furstenberg, John Galliano, Ann Demeulemeester, and some really wild ones from Christian Lacroix (what else would you expect?).
