OMG when I saw the Sakowitz label inside this Oscar de la Renta for Swirl caftan I almost passed out.  Being from Texas I’m very familiar with Sakowitz but let me give you the 911 on it.   Sakowitz was a chain of family owned high end luxury department stores based in Houston Texas.  The store was founded by 2 brothers in Galveston Texas in 1902.  They sold high end luxury items and going into that store was the ultimate experience in luxury because one thing Texans do well is show off their wealth, in a good way!  Sadly the store liquidated in 1990 but I believe their fur store is still open..  Nothing like having a luxury fur store in Texas now is there?  With all that snow in Texas of course those rich oil zillionaires women love their poor baby dead animal coats to parade about in… (if you are going to buy fur buy vintage)…. Anyway Swirl hired Oscar de la Renta in 1980 so this is a very early 80′s caftan and what woman doesn’t look fabulous in a vintage caftan?  Mrs Roper please come to the front desk!!!!  I’m Daniel Troppy your vintage luxury curator!
