Ordering the fabric- Fashion Designing

After you have finalised your fabric and ascertained the requirement you will source the fabric.  Suppliers sell fabric on the basis of minimums, which is the least amount of fabric you will purchase from that supplier.  Minimum ensures that the supplier profits from the sale in terms of volumes.  Suppliers have their own terms when it comes to minimums.  For some the minimum may be 20 yards or meters while for other it may be hundreds.  In every city there will be a certain minimum amount you will have to order. The supplier may have different minimums for different fabrics, textures, and prints.  Before you finalise your supplier negotiate minimums with him.  When your collection is small, it can be difficult to reach the minimums with a supplier. Consider this before you finalise the fabrics for your designs.  When you are not able to order the minimum from the supplier you can think about sample yardage.  Sample yardage has a higher rate than minimum, but you will be able to get the fabric and quantity you want. However it works better because you will be able to use the fabric you want for your design and don’t have to add to stocks unnecessarily.  Some suppliers don’t want to deal in sample yardage.  They may supply you once but for later collections they may not agree. To avoid this you can negotiate the rate for fabrics and pay more per meter but meet the minimums of the supplier.  This may work out cheaper than buying sample yardage. Some fabrics are expensive, and the supplier is ready to sell small quantities.  You could source such retailers and fabrics. You could collaborate with another designer and together meet minimums, or plan two collections and reach the minimums, the choices are plenty. You could also order material and avail of the minimum price by buying fabric that already has a large order.  You could check what fabric the supplier has in stock and buy that fabric. Such stocks have small minimum terms. You can dye fabric if you cannot get the colours you want, but you will get the texture and the quantity. Some suppliers have sales from time to time, where they sell small quantities of fabrics that are left over.  You can keep an eye for these sales and not only avail of discounts but get exactly the fabric you are looking for.  Quality Fashion Designing Colleges help you to negotiate terms that suit you best.
