Norman Norell black sequin clutch…..

Sequins are always in style and this is something Norman Norell knew to be true…  This is my first item from Norman Norell, hopefully the ball gowns from the 50′s 60′s & 70′s will find me too…  Among the American fashion designers creating between the 1950′s and the 1970′s, Norman Norell had a very classical and elegant style, both of daytime and for nighttime outfits.  Remembered for both the elegance and simplicity of his designs, Norman Norell once said, “There are people who say that designers chance fashion often to make women buy clothes.  I do not believe it.  Fashion’s function is to enhance the beauty of a women.  It changes constantly because women want it to….”   The changes of fashion can certainly be seen in Norell’s work.  The perfectly fitting wool jersey dresses, impeccably  detailed buttoned jackets, and simple high round necklines were the backbone of his daytime designs.  For nightwear, Norell believed in total elegance.  Mamie Van Doren is a friend on Facebook and just recently she posted a gorgeous vintage black and white photo of her in some nightclub in NYC in the 50′s wearing a black halter Norell sequin dress..  It was stunning and I posted my comment “Mamie you sure know how to rock Norman Norell…” His designs go way beyond being collectible, they are treated as national treasures….  I’m Daniel Troppy your vintage luxury curator!
