The thickness of the yarn makes for some irregularities in the finished product, but that stands as a testament to the beauty of handloom textiles. The thickness of the finished textile can be controlled by the amount of yarn used, which in turn determines its usage. For instance, the finer varieties are used to make sarees while the denser ones are used in home furnishings etc. The finer variety is lightweight, unfussy and easy to carry.

To look at, Matka silk has a slightly shimmery finish. It is slightly rough to the touch and is considered one of the best fabrics to sew on, despite irregularities in the weave. Matka silk sarees are among the more popular silk varieties found in the urban areas, especially in socialite circles.
