Nicole Kidman and Miranda Kerr's Dior dresses go on display in Melbourne
Miranda Kerr's wedding dress and Nicole Kidman's Oscars gown will be some of the 140 couture garments on display in the upcoming Dior exhibition in Melbourne.
Opening this weekend in the National Gallery of Victoria, House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture will be one of the most extensive exhibitions from the French fashion house since its first collection debuted in 1947.
The gallery will launch the collection this weekend with a surprise international A-list ambassador for a red carpet event on Saturday.
Katie Somerville, the exhibition's senior curator, has sifted through collections from Dior's fashion house in Paris to London's Victorian and Albert and the Metropolitan Museum in New York to decide what will go into the display.
"With this exhibition we've got 20 amazing things from our own collection that are Christian Dior couture. Then we've borrowed form a further 13 lenders, the main one being Christian Dior's own archives in Paris where we've borrowed in excess of 90 fantastic pieces," Somerville told AAP.
The collection includes the striking chartreuse sheath dress Kidman wore to the 1997 Oscars, considered a real fashion moment for the actress early in her career.
The raffia embroidered green and brown dress she wore to this year's Cannes Film Festival also features in the exhibition.
Dresses worn by actresses Naomi Watts, Jennifer Lawrence, Marion Cotillard and Charlize Theron also feature alongside Kerr's recently commissioned wedding dress worn when she tied the knot with Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel earlier this year.
