In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme on Sunday, a recently wed couple from Surat found special mention in his address as they served only tea at their wedding. “I used to talk about ‘Chai ka charcha’ during elections; never knew this will reach marriage halls,” he said, “A couple in Surat got married offering just tea.”

Speaking to news agency ANI, the bride, Raksha, expressed happiness that the Prime Minister acknowledged their struggle. “Jis chai pe Modi ji charcha karte hain usi chai pe humne shaadi karnne ka socha,” she told ANI. This has brought down her wedding expenses considerably as it amounted to just Rs 500. “We are very happy that our message reached PM Modiji,” she added.
PM Modi hailed all those who made sacrifices in support of the demonetisation move, announced earlier in November. The Prime Minister also invited everyone to take a pledge and become a part of a cashless economy. “I reiterate that I need your support; I am positive that you will help me in this; take a pledge that you’ll be a part of cashless economy,” PM Modi said.
