Most successful and reputable bridal boutiques require a bridal appointment to try on wedding dresses, particularly on weekends. Many have a limited number of dressing rooms, gowns and consultants. They want each bride to have a positive enjoyable experience, so brides-to-be can receive the undivided attention of their bridal staff with full access to all dresses during their visit. This can only be accomplished with an individual 60-90 minute appointment where the focus is on you, not with a store full of brides, all vying for the same dresses!

The Interview

Prior to your appointment, the bridal boutique may ask for details of the wedding and what your idea is of a perfect dress. The location, venue and date of your wedding is vital to the bridal consultant as it will direct them to the type of fabrics and styles that will be best. A beach wedding in Mexico dictates a completely different look then a church wedding in winter. By knowing your venue, fabric, silhouette and style preferences, they can have gowns in mind when you arrive. Whether you're looking for a specific style (such as mermaid wedding dresses or sheath wedding dresses) or are open to suggestions, your consultant is there to give professional guidance. Keep an open mind to some of their “out of the box” choices. They spend every day with dresses and brides and can find unique and beautiful gowns you may have overlooked.

Did you know that designer gowns are not hanging in a warehouse in every size waiting to be shipped? They're not made until ordered by a salon. ByCouturier orders your dream dress in the size, color and customization requested. Because of this, it takes 4-6 months for most gowns to come in. Most stores have sample gowns you can buy off the rack and some that can be “rush” ordered for an additional fee. However, having only a 2-3 month window before your wedding date to get a dress is going to make the process much more limited and stressful.

Make your bridal gown appointment fun and productive –  ask questions in advance! If you're planning on bringing a large group of family and friends, find out if the salon can accommodate. Some smaller salons may want you to book a private appointment where you can take over the entire store! Too many people at your appointment can mean too many opinions and make decisions challenging. Bring friends who will honor your style choices and budget. It is after all, your wedding! Bringing children, babies or toddlers can be very distracting and will take all focus off you and your mission. Ask friends and family to be respectful of your time and find babysitters. Food, coffee and pets are usually not allowed in salons. Many upscale salons offer champagne when their brides purchase. If you or your wedding party want to celebrate with champagne or food during your appointment, check with the salon as to their policies. Again, a private appointment might make the most sense.
