Mirrors have always been the most important accessory for doing make-ups, or for dressing up elegantly. We look into the mirrors everyday, more so, if we have to attend a party or any other important occasion.
There is always a last urge to take a glimpse at ourselves in the car mirror. Sometimes the makeup which looks beautiful in a home mirror, might not look that great, when you look at yourself in a car mirror. For example, the foundation might look uneven, because you missed certain spots, or your eye shadow colour might look different.
Actually, the problem here might not be your makeup skills. These mistakes can also be caused because of poor lighting, while applying makeup.
Lighting factors to consider, while applying makeup:
Natural light is perfect
Your vanity stand or mirrored dressing table needs to be positioned near a window. The brightness of natural light allows you to see your face more clearly. For ideal makeup application however, artificial lighting can be helpful, because they do not allow the shadow of your face fall on your mirror image.
High CRI lighting
Under specific lighting conditions, you may find the makeup foundation colour to perfectly match your skin tone. Surprisingly, it will not match, the moment you check it in the daylight. This is due to low colour rendering index (CRI).
Interior designers recommend high CRI (above 80) for the dressing table mirrors that are installed in the bathrooms or bedrooms. It is ideal to light vanity area for makeup application or grooming. You will be able to notice the genuine colour of eye shadows, lipstick, foundation, and more.
Bulb hues influence makeup application
Use side lightings
You may have seen old fashioned models of dressing tables on TV shows. The mirrors are surrounded with light bulbs, which helps to illuminate their faces well, for doing flawless makeup task. Well, you too can have your face highlighted with surrounding LED lights.
You can use multiple lights in your bathroom to get evenly flowing illumination. A better solution is to install two fixtures at eye level, on both sides of the mirror. It will help in accentuating each area of your face.
Lights fixed above the mirror illuminates your forehead, so you need to tilt your head far enough to apply makeup carefully. Thus, luminous part mounted at eye level is best, especially if two people of different heights are sharing the mirror.
You can look for pendants, scones, or mirrors with LED backlit section of frosted glass for side lightings. A centre ceiling fixture can be added to complement the vanity area lighting.
Try lighted makeup mirror
Today LED lighting is the norm for ideal illumination, and also for energy saving. It has better CRI that delivers the brightness just like sunlight. Travellers can go for a portable lighted travel mirror, because it is cordless, and can be easily carried in a tote bag.
