How rare is it for an entirely new category of clothing to pop up in the market place? In my opinion, it is rather rare indeed. Although we all wish to be inventive, it is certainly difficult to create an entirely new clothing category. Unfortunately, much of the good categories have been invented before you and I had a chance to invent them ourselves... The fashion industry has had the pleasure of being home to numerous important categories such as pants, shirts, shoes, handbags, sweaters, etc. for a very long time. Even not so important categories such as parachute pants have now been in existence for longer then we care to remember.
If you ask someone what are "pants"?, they most likely would not have to run over to the apparel glossary on Apparel Search or some where else to look up the definition of pants. They would simply know the meaning because this is a category of clothing that is clearly well known. However, if you would ask the average person, what are "Jeggings", they may possibly not yet know. Sure, you may know, but I do not think everyone would know the meaning. If you want to know a little secret, I did not know what a jegging was until I saw my daughter wearing them a few weeks ago. I have now come to realize that jeggings are a significant trend in both the women's market and youth market (girls jeggings).
In summary, jeggings are leggings that are styled to look like jeans. Utilizing stretch fabrics, the jeggings can look like jeans, and fit tight as leggings.
Now that we know what jeggings are, do you know what leggings are? Read the leggings definition if you are interested. I assume you do not need a definition of jeans.
