The year 2012 was a biggie for royal baby news. First Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, announce that they’re expecting their first child (due in July), then in December the Queen of Reality TV, Kim Kardashian, reveals she is also pregnant.
While it was only a matter of time before the future King and Queen of England started procreating, the news that Kimmy and her superstar boyfriend, Kanye West, were expecting the patter of tiny feet was somewhat more surprising.
Kim has made a career largely shaped on her looks and after Kanye dropped the B-bomb on stage at a concert in Atlantic City, celebrity editors the world over drew a sharp intake of breath – a Kardashian in sweatpants and maternity bras? Not likely.
So far the star has stuck to her uniform of sequins, body-con and revealing hemlines but only time will tell if she become a convert to Babies “R” Us.
If you’ve recently become pregnant and are worried about how your changing body will affect your style, take a leaf out of Kim’s book and rock your pregnancy the Kardashian way...
Go on a ‘Babymoon’
After breaking the news that Kim was with child, Kanye whisked her off to Paris for a ‘babymoon’. A growing trend for expectant couples, a babymoon is an opportunity for an indulgent and romantic holiday for just the two of you.
It’s unsafe to fly during your third trimester so, health permitting, why not spend a long weekend with your lover somewhere luxurious, before you’re up all night changing diapers?
Don’t Ditch the Dresses
While sheer frocks and cut-out details may not be for every expectant mum, Kim hasn’t slowed down on the fashion front since getting pregnant. With her baby bump just beginning to show, Kim is still able to get away with wearing her normal clothes and so can you.
There is no reason why you can’t rock dresses and heels during your pregnancy and daring outfits can actually showcase the natural bust enhancement that occurs – meaning you get a cracking cleavage and glowing skin throughout your first trimester – just like Kim and her Julien McDonald dress.
Get Some Sisterly Support
Kim’s older sister Kourtney has two children and is looking to add to her brood. She’s been there, done that and got the babygrow when it comes to rocking a Kardashian pregnancy, so will no doubt be on hand to offer Kim advice and support.
A solid support network is essential for expecting couples, particularly women as their bodies are changing so much. Take the time to surround yourself with positive friends and family and don’t be afraid to ask for advice from loved ones.
Word on the street in LA is that Kim has hired renowned fitness coach Tracey Anderson to ensure she keeps in shape throughout her pregnancy. While million dollar personal trainers might be out of the question during your pregnancy, keeping fit can help ease stress, strengthen your body ahead of labour and make it easier to get back into shape post-pregnancy.
I can’t wait to see how Kim adapts to her pregnancy, and, of course, wonder what she’ll name her little bundle of joy! Do you have any other pregnancy tips to share for expectant glam mamas like Kim?
