We know just how much pain waxing can cause. After all, ripping the hair out can’t really be painless, can it? But when compared to other ways of removing body hair, waxing is one method where the results last longer than the rest. Unless, of course, you are opting for a laser treatment!

If you are used to shaving or using hair removal creams to remove underarm hair, you would know just how frequently you’ll have to shave to keep the region hair-free. The pain associated with waxing can push many people to shave every day rather than give waxing a try.

We have listed out some ways to reduce the pain caused by waxing. Especially if you a first-timer, this blog is for you. Know how you can experience a less painful underarm waxing and enjoy smooth skin.

Let the Hair Grow

We know it might sound odd, but short hair cannot be waxed effectively. Your underarm hair needs to be at least ¼ inch long before you go for waxing it. Letting it grow too long might cause more pain so ensure your underarm hair is just the right length. So, don’t shave if you plan to go for waxing.

Be Clean

Wash your underarms with soap and water before getting them waxed. This removes the traces of sweat and deodorant and keeps the surface skin clean. Cleaner skin is easier to wax and causes less pain.

Use Ice Pack

If you are afraid of pain, uses an ice pack to numb the area before you wax it. Hold an ice pack over your underarm for a few minutes, wipe the skin dry, apply talcum powder to absorb any remaining moisture, and then proceed to wax it.

Go To a Professional

Don’t hesitate to go to a professional when waxing the underarms for the first time. They have experience and can finish the task in swift actions in less time. Don’t try to do it at home and end up getting hurt.

Don’t Moisturize

Moisturizer adds a protection layer on your skin and doesn’t allow the wax to stick to the skin and hair. Don’t use any cream or body lotion before waxing. Use it after you’ve had your underarms waxed to keep them soft and reduce pain. The trick is to know when to use it.

Check the Direction of Hair Growth

Always check the direction of the hair growth. The wax should be applied in the same direction while the strip should be pulled in the opposite direction to remove hair. Pull the wax strip in a single swift movement for better results and less pain. Pulling it slowly will hurt more.

That said, every person has a different tolerance level of pain. While some people find it bearable, others tend to cry and call it a nightmare. Once you get used to getting the underarm hair waxed regularly, you will notice that the pain reduces (you get used to it).
