From the moment Audrey Hepburn first graced our screens audiences were utterly astounded by her elegant and timeless style. From her classy 60s hairstyle to her daring Parisian dresses, viewers just couldn’t get enough of the Hepburn look. And after sixty years, each upcoming generation still draws inspiration from this fashion icon.

Not only was Hepburn unafraid to go against the fashion trends, she was a femme fatale in her own right. Her style was alluring, yet tasteful. Hepburn claimed her look was attainable; we’re going to tell you how.

The White Shirt

In her movie Roman Holiday, Hepburn changed this simple, everyday item into a fashion statement. By pulling her oversized shirt in around the waist Hepburn achieved a more fitted look. She was able to show off her slender figure but also gave a more feminine and casual twist to an item that was originally only worn in the office.

If you’re opting for a 50s look try tying a colourful neckerchief around your neck, finished in a neat bow to the side. This will really set off your outfit and capture the attention of those around you.

Ballet Flats

Audrey had once hoped to be a ballerina. Although this didn’t work out, she still lived the dream (well, partially) through the addition of some ballerina shoes to her wardrobe in the film Funny Face. In this movie, Audrey teamed up her flats with some skinny jeans, but the main advantage of these shoes is that they can be worn with anything.

So it’s no surprise that these little god-sends have remained in retail stores despite the changes to fashion trends. You can maintain your desired Hepburn style, but keep your shoewear practical.

Little Black Dress (LBD)

A real must have for any girl’s wardrobe. Its minimalist, slimming and it never fails to impress, especially in the case of Audrey Hepburn. In 2006 her own LBD worn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s sold for £500,000!

The secret of Hepburn’s fashion style is that less is more. Worn with the addition of some pearls, gloves and sunglasses Hepburn’s LBD was made part of an unforgettable outfit that is now firmly cemented into the fashion history archive and is still worn today.

The Sunglasses

Not something you would expect to see someone wearing with formal attire and yet, it worked. Hepburn struck again as a pioneer of fashion. Introduced in Hepburn’s infamous role as Holly Golightly, Oliver Goldsmith’s sun glasses made for an awesome accessory and an instant hit with all fashion mags.

These over-sized shades are perfectly suited to be worn with any outfit. But they can also be great for those days when you didn’t quite get enough beauty sleep …
