How to Dress Right for an Invigorating Workout

If you’ve stepped foot inside your local gym lately you may have noticed that getting a good workout can feel a little like a fashion show. We all want to look good, that’s half of the reason why most of us are paying for gym memberships. But, we also want to look good WHILE we work on our beach body. Choosing your ideal workout gear can be confusing and time-consuming. However, with a few tips, you can choose clothes that are not only stylish but functional.

Fun with Colors

There is no rule that says that all workout wear has to be grey, black, or neon-colored. With the growth of athleisure wear for you to choose from, there is no reason why your outfits can’t be as inspiring and upbeat as your Instagram feed. Wearing something that makes you feel good can be a great motivation for the days when you don’t feel like working out. Wearing something with a motivational message may be the key to the attitude adjustment that helps you push through the last minutes of a grueling spin class. It’s also a great way to show your support for your favorite causes, brands, and charities.

Durable Fabric

Cute clothes are great, but nobody wants to be cute and uncomfortable. Try to focus on clothes that are loose-fitting and made of durable fabrics, especially if you are doing fitness training. Cotton is a breathable favorite. Bamboo, wool, and Tencel are all also great natural fibers that make excellent workout gear. If you are going to be braving some extreme temperatures or need a little help staying dry and comfortable when you are sweating, don’t be afraid to look into some of the many great synthetic fabrics available.

Easy Care

Who has time for complicated laundering? Before you buy another sports bra or pair of yoga pants, check the care instructions. Look for something that can be thrown in your washing machine and either hung out to dry or dryer safe. Don’t make the mistake of buying athletic wear that looks great but ends up with deep wrinkles or shrinks after a single wash.

Odor Free

In the battle against odor, natural, breathable fabrics are your friend. Cotton takes the lead against polyester in this case. If you are planning on working up a sweat, it’s important to get odor-free fabrics. Try moisture-wicking fabrics, mesh fabrics, and fabrics that can be rinsed out with water and dry quickly. Don’t let stinky gym socks put a damper on your workout. There are plenty of charcoal-infused socks, insoles, and footwear to help control foot odor.

The next time you are thinking about starting a new training or workout routine, start with a new outfit and step out with confidence.
