How to Dress in Harajuku Style

Harajuku is a style of Japanese street wear. It has no unified look as the branches are endless, but there are some tips that will turn you into classic Harajuku for just one party or longer. Well, Japanese street culture seems a dreamland for those who are tired of typical casual or office dress code. So, are you ready to make your neighbors go whoooa? Let’s begin then.

  1. Pick a complicated outfit. Harajuku style implies numerous complicated combinations. While goth lolitas (one of the sub-styles) are all about dolly dresses, reserved overcoats and Victorian  bows, others are all about kawaii (literally ‘sweet’) looks resembling somewhat childish attitude to outfits. However, the more is the better. Avoid plain jeans+shirt combinations.
  2. Get a lot of accessories. When we say a lot, we mean A LOT. In many cases, they are colorful and are very girly (in case you’re aiming at a girl’s look, of course). The colors of children’s toys are favorable. So load your hands with those bracelets, add a headband, complement the look with the hello kitty knee-high socks, and you’ll be good.
  3. Forget the word natural. It is applied to hair especially. Of course, not all Harajuku styles are about wild hair colors. However, you are allowed to do that if you feel so. It is normal among Japanese teenagers in Tokyo. However, people with such hairdos can still turn heads in smaller towns.
  4. Pick the right shoes. While simple gumshoes are not frowned, you’ll improve your style by going for something more noticeable. Wedge boots or shoes are also a very common occasion. 8843452053?profile=original
