MUMBAI, India—The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Mumbai this morning to a rapturous welcome and soaring temperatures of 96 degrees. The couple landed from a scheduled overnight flight from London and started the tour by laying a wreath at the five-star Taj Mahal Palace Hotel which was targeted in the 2008 terrorist attacks where 164 people lost their lives.

Kate looked stunning and not at all jet lagged in a bespoke Alexander McQueen day dress. Sources have told Royal Watch she plans to use her tour of India and Bhutan to shake off recent criticism that she is the “Duchess of Drab.” The 34-year-old style icon didn’t disappoint with her vibrant and eye-catching McQueen dress which ensured that she stood out from the crowd. Sources say she managed the quick change at Mumbai airport assisted by her personal assistant, Natasha Archer, who doubles up as Kate’s stylist, and her trusted hairdresser, Amanda Cook Tucker.

The Duchess, who likes to pay tribute to the host country when she travels, is expected to dazzle on the red carpet Sunday at a charity gala dinner in Mumbai. According to a source at Kensington Palace there will be “a nod to the national dress” and while a sari might be a step too far for the normally demure duchess, expect an Indian designer. Kate is said to have had at least one dress custom made by London-based Indian designer Saloni. The Duchess wore a stunning royal blue creation of hers for last week’s reception at Kensington Palace.
