How did tattoos turn into fashion cult?

Once a bright sign of subcultural affiliation - tattoos have become a bright attribute of modern fashion, a kind of accessory for many fashionistas around the world. And it seems that getting a tattoo in our time is a common thing.

The popularity of tattoos was predictable - at the 90's many celebrities, including Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, began to flaunt their tattoos. This fashion was quickly perceived by the public, trying to follow their idols. Then the tattoo almost turned into a kind of fashion-cult.

The first was Jean Paul Gaultier, who created a very provocative collection of Les Tatouages in the spring of 1994, inspired by African and Indian motifs. This collection has made a lot of noise and also changed the status of tattoos in the fashion industry.

Such high-profile fashion houses as Maison Martin Margiela, Rodarte, Dries van Noten, Berluti, Chanel and Louis Vuitton used different tattoos in their collections, creating prints on clothes, releasing temporary but very realistic tattoos (as in the case of Chanel, whose flash tattoos has become bestsellers), collaborating with popular tattoo artists such as Marc Jacobs and Scott Campbell in 2011.

Even very conservative in terms of beauty standards brand Victoria's Secret ran to tattoos during one of its fashion shows, decorating the bodies of models with colorful time patterns.

Undoubtedly, such a cultural revolution in fashion affected the way the public perceives the idea of tattoos. Many models are increasingly posting pictures of their new tattoos in social networks as if giving a "bad" example, and designers are inspired by these individuals (and here it is not about Kare Dellevin, no, no). Star tattoo masters are gaining more hounds than the main trendsetters of the fashion industry.
