Hillary Clinton hair scrunchies: "100 per cent cotton, 100 per cent feminist"

Hillary Clinton has unknowingly become a muse for a line of haircare accessories, with the launch of a new brand, Hillary Scrunchies.

The idea came about when the two founders of Hillary Scrunchies, Morgan Gerard and Meredith Fineman, found there was nothing from Hillary’s campaign-approved merchandise they wanted to wear.

Hillary has long been mocked for wearing many variations of the elasticated fabric hairband (which was popularised in the 1980s), so the New York-based pair wanted to turn the humble scrunchie into a celebration of Hillary - and show their support for the Democratic Presidential candidate at the same time.

"In 2013- 2014, Hillary Clinton, then Madame Secretary, was shamed for wearing a timeless and one would say trend-transcending hair accessory - the scrunchie," the pair say.

"Not all of us have time to do our hair when travelling internationally, or dealing with national security. Not all of us have time to do our hair while we are busy working, cooking, studying, being a mom, cleaning, staying fit - and all of those other tasks that 2015 demands from women.

"Instead of making fun of Hillz, let’s embrace her favourite hair accessory. It’s hard enough to just be a woman without other women tearing you down."

The scrunchies, which are listed as 100 per cent cotton, 100 per cent feminist, are available in white and navy blue for $10.99 (approximately £7) and there's even a bandana version, too.

Hillary won't be the brand's only face, however: there's a line of Michelle Obama merchandise launching soon. The print? Obama's much celebrated power arms, but the product remains a mystery. We'll keep you posted...
