Mizoram is a state that boasts of really high-fashion weddings in terms of the grandeur of the outfits of the couple as well as the wedding guests. Other brides prefer wearing the traditional Mizo wedding garb instead, which is known as Puanchei. This traditional dress is made from cotton, which was earlier handspun but is now factory produced. This dress is colorful, vibrant and has been a part of the Mizo culture for a long time. This dress is usually coupled with a white colored blouse. The groom’s wedding ensemble is the traditional black suit, as is the case in most Christian weddings.
The accessorizing is simple and elegant. Brides prefer silver, white gold, diamonds and platinum over gold, as opposed to a majority of the other wedding customs across India. There have been no notable changes in the Mizo wedding culture in the recent years.
