The Designers can choose from a variety of fabrics from a range of global fabric suppliers according to the season’s theme. The same concept applies for the trims and accessories. The design tech also has the option of viewing the details of past styles done under each fabric or trim, their test results and defects in bulk prior choosing the item to the existing style. The software will also contain information on special finishes such as – Wash, Print, Embroidery, Laser, Grinding etc. Based on the information entered, the system will generate an image of the garment in actual raw materials and in actual finish enabling the design tech to view the style in a high resolution image which can be zoomed up to the weave or property of the article. This option is available in both before and after wash effects.

Below listed are some of the additional features of this first part of the IDFS software.

  • Filter products by specifications
  • Product search through manual entry of the product details
  • Import swatch from scan and match product to database
  • Analyse fabric yarns and counts
  • Obtain instant quotes from suppliers for new products scanned
  • Product Defects that have been identified in the past and reviews
  • Bulk styles that have been done in the past for selected raw materials

Firstly I am truely impressed to see young minds coming up with such technical tools to assit a one time domestic indutry which is now internationally spread business supporting livelyhoods and ecenomies. Representing an emergining economy here in SL and being part of a pioneer company exporting apparels to the UK and USA market I am impressed with this and thought it is note worthy.

As we all know Srilanka once being a prefered option for apparel sourcing due to the Duty preference to both USA & UK markets no longer enjoy this and the competition now at its peak with countires such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, China and some other low cost country or origins. Srilanka would have probably closed page for apparels at least 10 years back if had not embrased new technologies and improved working methods which has given a cutting edge to the quality of the products and the high profile styling capabilties it has adopted. There is no doubt this kind of initiatives will only help countries/ companies in such economies would want to embrace this kind of technolodgy.

The whole concept of being able to decide your styling, fabric, trims & aesthetic on a click of a button off a mass storage of data is really great. Further through sharing the common network with customers and vendors concepts and ideas could be trialed out before getting to actual garment making.

This would be a ideal softwear for the buyers designers and vendors to trial out new concepts and try different fabrics, colors and aceossories before deciding the final range they would want to put to work for their seasonal collection. While the end sample would have to be physically be available for the decision making this tool could be used to minimse the time, money and resources used to get to the final product.

In the conventional method there can be 3-4 rounds of sampling during buying stage before a season line is decided. As mentioned before using this technolodgy can help vendors optimise their resources back in their sample rooms, product development and merchandising and be cost competitive. All you would need is the softwear linked with the customer and the designers to be working real time!!..

Fantastic isnt it!!. Cant waut to trial out...

Innovation and idea that can change the world …. IDFS is an idea which wants to make great fashion data collection that Spread retailer to apparel manufacture…IDFS acts as a unit/media for carrying Product perceptions, technology practices, and fashion sourcing which can be transmitted from one mind to another through virtual experience. As a fashion designer /product professional I definitely love this particular tool. This is great tool which we can use to enhance productivity through concept stage to shop floor. IDFS certainly improves lifecycle management and product development speed and level of quality consumers expect.
