High-fashion designers sometimes focus too hard on style and forget the main job of any clothing: to be functional. This is the case of men’s underwear. Often times designers forget to add function to their designs. And men’s underwear designers are not the exemption. This is the reason why it is not common for men’s underwear to include the most obvious, most functional piece of design: pockets!
It does not matter if you are a gay or straight man, there is something that you always appreciate having: a safe place to store your condoms. Whenever you are meeting your girlfriend/boyfriend, having protection handy and avoiding condoms to be all smashed and perhaps damaged in your wallet comes very useful. If you are a girl, having your boyfriend keep condoms in his underwear will make sure that no matter the situation you always have protection handy without killing any momentum built up.
Today, I will cover how while working for Hunk² we came up with the idea of combining style with functionality. The brand, famous in the gay underwear world, is now reaching to a wider audience with the new boxer briefs collection.
The best way to do this was introducing stylish pockets in our underwear. This would not only add a touch of style and outwear look to men’s underwear, but most importantly: it would add functionality and add that selling point to our designs.

With Hunk²’s new creation men will never have a hard time discovering they are out of condoms just before that special moment. Now, men can take condoms right there: in their underwear. You pretty much will be wearing underwear that is as comfortable as any underwear, but with the added functionality of exterior pants or shorts.
As fashion designers, you can take functionality to your advantage. With Hunk² we used the pockets to add color blocking. Recent designs have also included print blocks in the pockets that match either waist elastics or the pouch. More creativity has resulted in ongoing efforts to add functional elements to men’s thongs and jockstraps.
