For that perfect pout

Don a black dress, white pearls, and red lipstick… you have a winning look right there. For a perfect pout, here are some of monsoon lipstick trends that would help you beat the grey skies and make a great style statement.

Naina Ruhail, a makeup artist and blogger, says, “Ruby red, hot pink, plum, and purple are few colours you can go in for this monsoon. Since this season is dull, what you need is a lip shade that brightens up the day.”

According to Aleena Mackar, fashion and beauty blogger at The Style Chair, “Shades like watermelon, vermillion, corals, tangerine, and tropical pinks are a rage at the moment.”

Shefali Surve, a makeup artist with a leading cosmetics brand, casts her vote in favour of dark shades and says: “Wine is a winner.”

While choosing the perfect shade that complements your skin tone is one thing, it is just as important to pick a lipstick that is best suited for the season. “Go for matte lipsticks that are long lasting and smudge-proof and avoid glossy ones which can get wiped off easily,” Naina advises.

“To ensure your lipstick lasts long, make sure you use a lip liner before applying the lipstick (all over your lips). Then, blot it with a tissue paper and apply the lipstick again,” Aleena recommends.

When it comes to choosing eye makeup and lipstick, we often tend to play safe. But if experts are to be believed, this is the perfect time to get creative and experiment. Shefali says, “Ombré lips are gorgeous. Ensure you use a dark colour in the outer corners and merge into a light tone at the centre.”

Aleena, who experiments a lot with fashion forward makeup trends, says, “Dual coloured lips are definitely a must try. Colour your upper lip and lower lip in different complementary shades or you could even try a dual shaded lipstick.”

It is also important to rain proof yourself fashionably and coordinate your lip colour with the rest of your makeup. “If you plan on going with a bold colour, you can keep a soft neutral look for the eyes – a soft smoky eye using light eye shadow or liner. But, if you go for a bold make up on the eyes, nude lips are best. Your skin needs to be clean with a pink blush complementing your skin tone,” Shefali explains.

It is not enough that your eyes and lips complement each other, you also need to coordinate your wardrobe with your look and here are some pointers. According to Naina, “To match your lipstick to the outfit, keep the rest of the makeup simple and accessories minimal, or else you can always wear a contrasting lip colour. For instance, red or fuchsia pink with a yellow or white dress, would look stunning,”

“Whites and blacks go with everything and for the rest of the colours in your closet you can simply pair complementary colours. Steer clear of pairing a red dress with a pink lipstick or vice versa. That would be the biggest faux pas! Preferably match gold-toned accessories with warm toned lipsticks and silver toned accessories with cool toned lipsticks,” Aleena advises.

Whether the weather is dull or you have a bad day… you can always spruce up your day and looks with that perfect smile and pout.
