Highsnobette just linked an informative short video
created by independent accessories and footwear designer Melody Ehsani,
and though she works with tropical patterns and Swarovski
crystals, she’d hate to hear you call her work all style and no
substance. “I’ve always had an affinity towards justice and I wanted to
fight for women’s rights, and I just realized that Law wasn’t the proper
vehicle and I felt that what came innately to me or what came easiest
to me was always design.” If you dig a little deeper on Ehsani’s website, you’ll
find that the American-born Persian feels she continues to work towards
equality and justice by simply doing her job. “In my culture,” her bio
reads, “a woman’s value and status are determined by her marriage.”
Instead, Ehsani is working to cement her value and status by climbing
the rungs of fashion using her own two hands. It’s an interesting lesson
in how pursuing the urge to design means different things to different
designers. [Highsnobette]
