Fashion Fame: Models Who Are Changing the Industry

We’ve all envisioned the opulent life of fashion models, who get to wear glamorous clothing at runway shows and photo shoots. However, it is easy to think your body is not the perfect type, with the increasingly strict standards of beauty in the industry. Fortunately, a lot of models are changing that, by being outside the norm of what is expected.

Jillian Mercado

At 26, Jillian Mercado is considered practically over-the-hill for a fashion model. What is even more unusual in the industry that desires perfection, is that she uses a wheelchair. Mercado loves writing about fashion, leading to her creating a blog about the subject. Recently, she has appeared as one of the faces for the new Diesel campaign of fashions while using a wheelchair due to her muscular dystrophy.

Alex Minsky

A former Marine, Alex Minsky lost part of his right leg fighting while in Afghanistan, earning him a Purple Heart. After learning to walk with a prosthetic limb, Minsky has kept up a rigorous exercise regimen. He was able to attract attention in fashion with his tattooed torso, which was perfect for fashion photo shoots and internet advertisements.

Ericka Ervin

While clothing designers have always loved tall models, Ericka Ervin is exceptional at 6-foot-8. Before beginning to work as a model, Ervin trained as a paralegal and personal trainer. She is also involved in politics but takes time to wrestle with men for a fee. In addition to appearing on magazine covers, Ervin had a small role in a television program.

Daphne Selfe

Many senior citizens want to keep working as long as possible, but most do not work as fashion models. Daphne Selfe has enjoyed modeling a variety of clothing for 60 years while maintaining her thin figure and youthful face. Not only does she model fashions on runways, she is featured in magazines wearing lingerie.

Casey Legler

Having an androgynous appearance allows an expanded career when you can model clothing for both genders. Casey Legler is female, but now exclusively models men’s clothing in magazine advertisements for the Ford Modeling Agency. Many people are surprised to learn the model wearing jeans, shirts and motorcycle jackets is actually a woman.

It is good to know the fashion industry is changing by using models who are as diverse as the general population. According to Dr. Frank W. Sallustio, one important thing that has not changed in this career, is the necessity of a beautiful smile that is easy to achieve with Sun City AZ cosmetic dentistry. Models now are chosen for their defining look or characteristic, and once you find yours, don’t be afraid to embrace it.
