Fashion face-off: Paris vs London

The City of Light has an extensive haute couture heritage that focuses on producing timeless, high-quality basics with a simple, effortless street style – think biker jacket and cigarette trousers with a classic red lip. It’s a particular brand of Gallic insouciance that’s often imitated but seldom matched, and barely a month goes by without an article about how French girls do it better.

That’s not to say that London doesn’t pack a style punch all of its own, however. Back on home ground, things take a rather more experimental turn. You only have to hop on the tube or walk down the street to soak up the clashing influences of this truly diverse city, where heritage British brands bring a punk aesthetic to traditional techniques. We’re also known for producing some of the fashion world’s hottest young things, such as Christopher Kane and JW Anderson.

When it comes to choosing one of these style camps to make your own, it’s not always an easy decision. Happily, with outposts of some of the best Parisian brands right here in the capital, you can enjoy the best of British with a touch of French flair. French labels such as Zadig & Voltaire and Maje offer understated wardrobe staples of the highest quality, while the UK’s home-grown style stars Jimmy Choo and Burberry inject a touch of verve into their innovative wares.Read more at:princess formal dresses | short formal dresses australia
