The Spring Fashion Shows

In the fashion world, the F/W collections and concepts are usually presented during the spring time. This gives designers time to see what’s hot and can work - and buyers time to order the latest looks so they can get them into stores in time for late summer shopping and offer the high end concept for sale right off the rack.

This Spring, a number of trends in women’s fashions began appearing on the most important fashion runways. While the look for this year remains classic, there are still a couple of new trends that you have to know about if you want to look chic.

Accessories Are Out, Earrings Are In

A couple of seasons ago, no self-respecting fashionista would go out in public without at least three or four accessories to complement their outfit. This year, leave your accessories in the closet and concentrate on your coffret à bijoux.

Earrings and ear-cuffs stole the limelight on the red carpet. The new twist is that it doesn’t matter if they match or even if you are wearing an even number of earrings.

This year’s fashion shows featured adventurous new ear-jewelry from Givenchy, Gucci, and Tibi, among others. Expect the other designers to follow suit and come up with their own exotic ear decorations.

Pearl Necklace

This fall, go through your grandmother’s closet and dig out that classic pearl necklace. It is said that pearls have no rivals in jewelry and they will play a leading role also this fall and winter.

Gratefully, pearls go with just about anything. They have no equals if worn with formal dresses but they can also be used to personalize a more casual look with a touch of grace and elegance.

One twist on the traditional use of pearls this season is that they aren’t being limited to necklaces and earrings. In this year’s biggest shows, pearls began showing up as accessories in all kinds of ways, even facial jewelry!

Brooches are also back. So you can get double duty from your jewelry by wearing brooches that include pearls!

Floral Prints

Warm up your fall and winter look this year with fancy, exotic floral prints. These busy, eye-catching designs were featured by such influential designers as Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, and Gucci.

Dresses, skirts, and even pants suits will be adorned with floral patterns this fashion season.

Fur Is Fun Again

Fur is back. After having spent a decade or so hidden from view in cold storage out of fear of being reprimanded by animal rights activists, people will be wearing their furs again this fall and winter because they are back “in vogue”.

If you still have qualms about wearing dead animal pelts, you can always opt for a faux fur coat, hat or stole.

There always has to be a twist and this year it’s that fur is being used on shoes as well as its traditional uses. Fur shoes have been included in the collections of Fendi, Gucci, and Maison Margiela during this year’s shows. Now it’s only a matter of time before fur covered shoes make their way to the mainstream.

Leather Never Goes Out of Style

And animal rights activists won’t also like the fact that leather is expected to be back as the material of choice this season … as if it ever went away!

Leather is always popular because it instantly empowers anybody who is wearing it with a sense of style and cool. This year, Italian designers such as Trussardi, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Bottega Veneta featured fashions adorned with lots of leather.

Thigh High Boots

More than 40 years ago, fashion models and other followers of the latest trends turned heads wearing thigh-high go-go boots. Guess what? They’re back!

Designers such as Marc Jacobs, Edun, Christian Dior and Versace include these sleek, sexy footwear in this year’s collections. They’ve also been featured in some of the most popular feature films. So you can expect to start seeing thigh-highs in all your favorite stores very soon.

This year’s twist is that they are being produced in a variety of bright, outrageous colors. “Kinky boots” are the new Louboutins this season.

Big Bags Are Back

Throw out your clutches and micro-purses. This year, when it comes to bags, the bigger the better.

The over-sized bag is one of this year’s most coveted “must-have” items. Designers including Chanel, Calvin Klein and Celine have introduced their own versions of this time-tested accessory on the runways this year. But you don’t have to spend a fortune to look great. Any type of big handbag, carryall tot, shoulder bag, messenger bag, or even backpack will do. No surprise if to find your wallet you would need GPS!
