Failed Quality Test : Your Clothing Failed Testing

What takes your breath away more then a failed quality test? I must tell you, it is really a horrible feeling. As designers or product development personnel, we strive to design a fabulous collection. After the design phase is complete, we proceed to obtain orders from our fine retail accounts. As soon as we have orders in hand, we proceed diligently thru the process of lab dips, strike offs, fit review etc. Not a stone is left unturned as we glide thru the management of the production process. Orders are placed for price tickets, hangers, hangtags etc. We receive our bulk fabric shipment as well as our trim in a timely manner from all suppliers. After we receive the first bulk fabric shipment, we quickly submit portion to the fabric testing lab and receive a "passing" grade. All appears to be going well... After months of working on a project, our garment production is nearly complete. It is time to submit final production samples to the testing lab. After waiting a few days, we see that we have an e-mail back from the testing laboratory. We take one more sip of our coffee, then double click the file to open the report. Oh, crap.. after three washes we have too much pilling. In an instant, we slam on the breaks and the system shuts down in its tracks. For many of us, panic sets in... Can we re-work the fabric to improve the pilling? Did the lab make an error on the test report? If I submit new samples from the same lot, would they pass? If I test at a different lab would they find a different result? Do I have time to re-make fabric, get new trim, and stay on schedule with the order? Where is my bottle of Vodka? These are only a few of the thoughts that may run thru our heads. In the past, I have experienced "passing" grades on "pre-production testing" and then arrive at "final production testing" to only get slapped in the face. It is absolutely awful. Has this happened to you? I am assuming that I am not the only one to have such an experience. Fortunately, this sort of experience occurs VERY rarely. Typically, quality issues will raise their heads during the pre-production submission process. Learn more about Quality Testing and quality assurance issues. By the way, above is purly fiction. My production always runs "perfectly". Doesn't yours? (say yes, incase fashion buyers are reading)
