Enchanting Kanchipuram Sarees

Ask anyone about the first name that comes to mind when thinking of a classic, traditional Indian saree and the spontaneous answer is bound to be Kanjeevaram sarees or Kanchipuram sarees, more often than not. One of the main reasons Kanchipuram sarees are a hallmark of rich Indian culture is because they are said to be favored by the gods in the Hindu religion. Cotton was preferred in this saree by Lord Shiva while Lord Vishnu preferred silk. Besides this, a Kanjeevaram saree is one that requires at least three weavers working side by side, making its value much higher. Such is the popularity of this type of saree in south India that it is worn to weddings, naming ceremonies, birthdays, anniversaries and any other auspicious celebrations by women of all ages.

The problem with extensive commercialization of the production process is that one never knows if the saree is of premium quality and completely authentic. Moreover, it is not possible for everybody to visit Tamil Nadu (the state where it originates) and go from shop to shop hunting for good quality Kanchipuram sarees. As a solution to this problem, one can always look for Kanchipuram sarees online at the more reputed online portals like Utsav Fashion.

One other problem that arises with traditional and regional sarees is that the fabric that is commonly used is silk and cotton. This however does not always appeal to younger demographics. Designers and boutiques have reinvented this classic saree and made similar motifs and embroidery available in the fabric georgette. There are a number of georgette sarees online that are reminiscent of Kanchipuram silk sarees in terms of zari thread worked into classic Kanchi motifs like lions, parrots, peacocks, swans, jasmines, leaves, mangoes, chariots, moons and the sun.
