Donated wedding for former Rotorua streety

The Rotorua community have rallied together to make a wedding happen for an ex-street sleeper and his new fiancee.

The groom to be Brian 'BamBam' Mollgaard was homeless five years ago and used to couch surf from place to place.

He was on the streets for a year before he found his own accommodation again.

Mollgaard has known his bride to be Stephanie Sullivan for many years but they only recently became romantic involved and fell in love.

He proposed on Valentines Day.

A while after Mollgaard finally found accommodation he met the founders of Rotorua community organisation Love Soup.

Love Soup feed the Rotorua homeless seven nights a week and two mornings a week as well as help find street sleepers accommodation, furniture and work.

Because of Mollgaard's street sleeping experience he had made friendships with those on the streets and knew where a lot of them hung out.

So he became Love Soup's first point of contact to locate the homeless.

While Mollgaard has been housed for five years now, he has continued to work with Love Soup Rotorua to help those who need help, and so, Love Soup and the community have decided to give back.

One week ago Love Soup posted a message to their Facebook page stating they were very happy for BamBam and his bride-to-be and if anyone could help with the wedding it would be gratefully received.

The donations came rolling in.

So far they've been gifted a wedding ceremony, reception venue and wedding night accommodation from Sudima Lake Rotorua, catering, outfits for the groom, bridesmaid, best man from Dress for Success Rotorua.

A Trans am car has been donated for the day as well as a wedding cake, hair and makeup for bridal party, flowers, invitations and a photo booth.

They are still looking for a size 10 bridesmaid dresses uk for the bride, wedding bands and a photographer.

Mollgaard said he is really looking forward to being married.

"I am so happy and want to be with Stephanie for the rest of my life," he said.

"I am so grateful for all of the wedding help. It has been great, I couldn't do this by myself, I wouldn't even know where to start."

The wedding will be on Sunday, August 14.
