Does Salt Lamp Really Work for Air purification?

Before it became a household name with lots of benefits, the Himalayan salt lamp has been just like every salt lamp. Mined in Khewra falls in the Punjab region in Pakistan just beside the Himalayas, these crystal salt lamps have gone to impress the world. Not only with its aesthetic value but also with its immense benefits. It also helps improve the well-being of children.

One such benefit is air purification. As we all know, there are hundreds of air pollutants roaming in the air space every time. Without air purification, we expose our body to a lot of danger that sometimes takes time to rectify and at a considerable cost.

The need to purify the air

HVAC systems and air purifiers are selling a lot today because of the perceived dangers of air pollution. During the winter and summer, there are pollutants that are very harmful to our bodies. Some stir up allergens, causing discomfort to our health.

People having trouble with breathing are looking for a natural remedy to their situation. Crystal salt lamps have started to fill a void otherwise not known by many. Salt lamp hygroscopic tendencies, together with the science of halo therapy, are one of the benefits derived from using the lamp.

What are salt lamps?

Salt lamps are the leading natural ionizers, together with sunlight, rainfall, fresh air, and staying on the beach. These lamps with an iconic shape are one of the leading items in home decor and accessories. Every year, millions of salt lamps are transported from the Himalayas to Europe and the US to cater for two things, aesthetic and perceived health benefits. People also use them as a means of treatment in many establishments. Especially for those with lung cancer, asthma, and other respiratory diseases.

How does the Himalayan salt lamp really work?

The Himalayan salt lamp is one of the best salt lamps with a light bulb in it. During use, the light bulb will heat the crystal salt into producing what we love to call" negative ions" (more on that later). The light it emits, is in hued-pink color with a soft glow that makes one feel sleepy. It is this natural remedy that soothes millions of people all over the world after a long day. It is also used in offices to counter the amount of positive energy coming from electronic devices. Most people leave them on in the room and go to work in the hopes that by the time they get home, there is enough purified air to soothe them.

How does the salt lamp purify the air?

By merely trapping dust, debris and other air pollutants in the air, salt lamps have done a lot of good. The atmosphere contains water molecules that need filtration of dust, mold, mildew, etc. When a fraction of that gets trapped in a lamp filled with moisture - as a result of heating, the air automatically improves. Another way the lamp can work on improving air quality is to produce negative ions.

What are negative ions and how are they related to air purification?

Naturally, any element coming from nature comes with a negatively charged neutron. Meaning, electrons are moving in the environment at that moment which helps in improving the mood around the area. In the same way, a positively charged environment leaves us with headaches, migraines, insomnia, and free radicals.

Fresh air, freshwater, sunlight, and salt lamps are some of the natural ionizers we have in the world. A fully lit room with a Himalayan salt lamp for a long time produces enough negative ions to neutralize positive ones. These. we believe, improve the air quality in the room, which in turn leads to a better mood and improved sleep quality.

A better mood and improved sleep quality are some of the other benefits of the Himalayan lamp, which we will leave for now.

What is halotherapy and why is it sought after for air purification?

Before the advent of rock salt lamps, people usually visited salt caves and spas to get the full treatment. These salt caves and spas were believed to help fight free radicals and stress just by inhaling them. Today we find salt inhalers online and in stores hoping to cater to a cross-section of consumers who still believe in halotherapy.

By inhaling salt from the air, it is believed to help clear our airways.

What is hygroscopy?

The trapping of water molecules in the air is a massive feature of hygroscopy. The lamp dries the salt as it traps more water molecules from the moisture outside it. Without heat, the salt lamp won't be able to capture as many particles as it does. These are some of the properties that distinguish a salt lamp from others.

How does the Himalayan salt lamp compare to other artificial air purifiers?

The HVAC system and air purifiers are an excellent way to start if you want to get some clean air, especially in a crowded environment. But, are they natural? A natural air purifier is one of the best things you can have in your home because they trap compounds that are far from the reach of artificial purifiers.

Is the claim for air purification backed by science?

Rock salt comes naturally and is made of sodium and chlorine. An exposed salt after a long time traps air molecules in the surrounding and gets wet. The rock salt lamp has other properties aside from chlorine and sodium like potassium, calcium, and magnesium, which makes it a distinct type of salt to have around. When the light bulb gets heated inside the lamp, the process of hygroscopy takes place. The heat drains the amount of moisture which traps impurities in the air and releases negative ions into the air.

In conclusion, most people are in support of the use of this salt lamp.

I saw different options for air purification but you could surprise me)) It looks amazingly like an interior item however I prefer proven devices for such an important mission as air quality in the house. You can look at a standard example - air purifier and dehumidifier. There is nothing superfluous. They are as functional and economical as possible. This is exactly what you need for daily use in the home.
