BROOKLYN, N.Y., August 9, 2012 – Industry City, the creative enclave that comprises 40 acres of Bush Terminal along Brooklyn’s Sunset Park waterfront, will once again host Brooklyn Fashion Week{end} (BKFW), the borough’s premier fashion and charity event. The Spring/Summer 2013 collection show will be held from September 27 through September 30 with the theme “Design Grows in Brooklyn, Grow with Us.”

Showcasing the top emerging designers in the fashion industry including local, national and international designers and presented by the 501c3 non-profit, Brooklyn Style Foundation, BKFW is celebrating its 14th season and will feature eco-friendly designers, ready-to-wear and couture designers. This season of BKFW will feature collections by fashion designers from the USA, India, Philippines, United Kingdom, Africa, Australia Germany and the Middle East. The opening night will feature keynote speaker Melanie Fraser Hart, Owner/Creative Director of Callula Lillibelle women’s wear. The design students of William H. Maxwell High School and the Smarter Clothing collection will also showcase during the opening night of eco-friendly collections. The final evening of BKFW will close with collections by Brooklyn- based designers.

Attendees will enjoy a full runway production show. Also scheduled is a Celebrity VIP and Cocktail Reception that features a premium bar and an internationally recognized DJ.

“The BK Style Foundation has found a true home for BKFW at Industry City and this partnership has allowed us to grow and make this ‘the’ premier fashion event in Brooklyn,” said Rick Davy, Creative Director of BKFW. “We offer a showcase for talented aspiring designers to bring their brand to the right audience and receive incredible attention from media, celebrities and the design world.”

Charity is also a huge component of each BKFW event. Through September 10, bloggers have the opportunity to write a compelling post about Soles4Souls,® which collects new shoes to give relief to the victims of abject suffering and collects used shoes to support micro-enterprise efforts to eradicate poverty. The selected first place winner will receive four VIP passes to the BKFW Spring/Summer 2013 event and a Samsung Galaxy Tablet. To sign up now, please email MehganH@GiveShoes.org Visit www.giveshoes.org for more information.

The foundation has devoted each season of BKFW to support charitable organizations; this season will support Soles4Souls, Paul Robeson Theater and SCIP (Corporate Internship Program).

“We are thrilled to hold this exciting and fascinating event at Industry City for the third time and look forward to continuing our relationship with the BK Style Foundation,” said Bruce Federman, Director of Real Estate at Industry City Associates.  “We believe in the importance of supporting local arts, culture and charity and BKFW is the kind of event that exemplifies all the possibilities for Industry City and this emerging area of Brooklyn.” Industry City has approximately 11,000 square feet of communal exhibition and event space, which has been provided for artists’ use and is available for functions such as BKFW.

About Industry City

Industry City at Bush Terminal is a prominent complex of manufacturing, office and retail space on the Brooklyn waterfront. When it was built in the early 1900s, it was the largest manufacturing and distribution center in the world, and it helped turn Brooklyn into a major 20th-century seaport. Brooklyn has since evolved into one of New York’s great centers of innovation and culture. What's made at Industry City and how it's made has also changed. Industry City’s 16 buildings at Bush Terminal, which once manufactured electric motors, machine parts and textiles, are now making, designing and selling products for the 21st-century world.
