Last Thursday, Crown Princess Mary flew to Berlin to attend the Bambi Awards 2014. She received the golden statute of Bambi for her passionate work to stop the violence against women. Other royals that have received this award are the Swedish Queen Silvia and the Queen of Jordan – Rania.

When she arrived at the event, Mary turned many heads as she looked simply stunning in her Jesper Høvring dress in dark blue. Crown Princess Mary seemed more than pleased with the award as she was shining bright like a real diamond. The Bambi Charity Award was presented to Mary for her social focus on the ever growing problem of domestic violence. It was Maria Furtwängler-Burda, a very well-known actress and physician, who handed the trophy to Mary, which gesture seemed to have touched her very deeply.

Many photographs from the event were uploaded by the guests but one particular Instagram photograph made by Ole Lynggaard – a jewelry house from Denmark – stood out from the rest. On the photograph, Crown Princess Mary is standing on the stage with her golden Bambi in her hands and her eyes seemed full of tears. Mary said a few words on the stage in order to express her appreciation and gratitude: “I am truly honored tonight to receive this award. I accept this Bambi as a torch of hope for every girl who lives with violence or fear of violence. Vielen Dank!”

As she was leaving the stage, Mary nearly had a sit down on the stairs as she slipped. She managed to stay on her feet and not fall, which is probably a result of the many years she had to keep her perfect balance on high heels when she walks the many cobbled streets in the Danish capital.

Crown Princess Mary had previously explained why helping others is her priority and why she always works so much to achieve it. During a conference in Estonia at the beginning of 2014, Mary said: “I have always found it very difficult and upsetting to see people who, for whatever reason, find themselves alone, marginalized and isolated by society. This is a feeling I remember clearly from childhood and it is with me to this very day. There is something so very unfair and wrong about a man, a woman, a boy or a girl standing completely alone in this world.”
