That's So New York - As Pantone’s press release says, “Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day – with nothing “everyday” about it.” PANTONE’S 2011color of the year is Honeysuckle- A sherbet shade of pink, with a hint of red and orange zest. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the right spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.

“Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®“Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum.” Eiseman continues,“Honeysuckle may also bring a wave of nostalgia for its associated delicious scent reminiscent of the carefree days of summer.” Honeysuckle is seen by designers as a pick-me-up at a time when many people have had their fill of misfortune. It goes charmingly with all the three basic shades- black, white and nudes and is dynamic and zany with navy, charcoal or light to mid grey. It could be used beautifully with complementary shades like green that can energize the hue and fit the colour blocking trends of the season.

Visa is offering a card in the hue, while New York fashion designer Nanette Lepore’s "hot melon" variation of the color is flying off the shelves. Ken Downing describes the color as "orange coral" when he looks at fashion for Nieman Marcus.
