Brasso: Fabric That Flows like a River

Brasso, or the ‘burnt out fabric’ as it is also known, is a wispy and gorgeous looking fabric that has been an invention of the modern world. Indian fashion wear items like Brasso sarees, Brasso salwar kameez and Brasso lehenga cholis have been on the Indian fashion scene for quite a while.

For this reason, the fabric was considered to be extremely expensive and exclusive. At the time of its invention, cotton was used to make this fabric.

Brasso is essentially a soft, wispy fabric is that has patterns woven onto it. This material can be made from other fabrics varying from velvet to chiffon and in some cases even Corduroy. It was initially used to make bridal dresses. The elegance of this fabric lies in the fact that it is lightweight and therefore is considered a fluid material. Added to that characteristic is that of the motifs on the fabric, hence giving an overall dramatic effect. The most popular motifs on this fabric are inspired by nature i.e. blossoms and vines usually adorn Brasso fabric. Opaque, circular motifs are also one of the most sought after styles.

The advantage of working with Brasso fabric is that it can carry off any sort of embroidery or hand-work. Right from gota patti work and kundan to phool patti work, there is no style that is unsuitable for Brasso.

It is easy to maintain if one subjects it to dry cleaning and not hand-wash or strong suds.
