FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brooklyn, NY – September 24, 2011, Moriamo and Latifat, sibling designers of Aso Damisi, are looking to have women from all walks of life, embrace their wax prints collection, at this year’s BK Fashion Week{end}.  Their collection will be presented on September 30, 2011 at Industry City – Bush Terminal, 241 Third Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.

Aso Damisi (ah-SHAW DAH-me-see) was created by 2 sisters, Moriamo and Latifat. Both sisters were born in Nigeria, and moved to the United States with their family at a very young age. Moriamo and Latifat originated from the Yoruba speaking tribe in the West African nation. In the Yoruba language, “Aso” means cloth or clothing and “Damisi” means prosperity.  The colorful, vibrant, styles hold significance as they represent social standing, age, tribal orientation and marital status. The talented sisters are self taught designers. They have always created different outfits out of the traditional fabrics with an influence of Western world designer labels. After years of this innovative way of dressing, the sisters decided to introduce the concept to the American fashion industry by launching “Aso Damisi”. The line is designed for women who are not afraid to step out in something vibrant, colorful and fresh.

The inspiration behind Aso Damisi comes from the desire to share an important part of ethnic culture mixed with contemporary silhouettes with the mainstream. The line is meant to inspire every woman to embrace her femininity and to feel confident enough to wear such bold, bright and beautiful garments. Aso Damisi’s mission is to increase the popularity of African inspired wear in the US apparel market. Wax print fabrics, primarily worn by Africans, are the main fabrics used in their collections. Even though the fabric originated from the Dutch, it has gained such popularity in Africa that it has become the major part of traditional wear.
