Are 'respectable' fashion writers insecure with 'upstart amateur' fashion bloggers?

And the 'saga' continues...

I mean, I have been following the spat between certain fashion writers [ let's call them the traditionalist ] and a few select fashion bloggers [ let's name them the upstarts ] who, apparently, have stolen the thunder from the tradionalist, the group of admirable and respectable writers, who are not only senior (i.e. old and decrepit), well-experienced (soon to be hired as consultants), well-placed (sit beside the Queen of England, kiss the Pope's hand every Sunday, do weekly give-a ways of food coupons to the poor) and what-have-you. The traditionalist are, of course, employed by newspapers, fashion magazines and the likes.

The upstarts are supposedly independent bloggers (used to eat onion and rice for dinner, used to use coupons to buy mayonnaise and tuna) who are self-employed and have become the darlings of the fashion houses. Both were once courted by fashion houses and showered with gifts, plane tickets, designer clothes, chalet?. Now only the fashion bloggers get the goodies... WTF!

What was the incident that increased the tension between the two camps? Here's the exact word from Susie Mesure, author of the 'maligned' (or praised, it depends on which side you're on) article:

An online spat broke out last week after Tavi's [Gevinson - the 13 y.o. blogger ] giant bow-shaped headpiece obscured the view of one of British fashion's most senior writers, Grazia magazine's style director Paula Reed, at the Christian Dior haute couture show in Paris. Grazia claimed it had "started the Tavi backlash" after Reed tweeted a picture of the Dior collection – as seen through Tavi's bow.

In essence, a senior fashion editor [ Paula Reed ] was annoyed by an upstart (geez, she's only thirteen!) named Tavi Gevinson who sits on the front row while the more senior Ms. Reed sits one row away and could not view the show properly, or so she says...

Very interesting. I enjoyed reading your blog post. I think I am one of the "upstarts". However, I am an upstart with out any of the perks. I don't get showered with gifts or plane tickets to fashion events... Anyway, well done blog. Thanks for sharing with us. If you are interested you can submit articles at the FashionNewspaper.com site. The Fashion Newspaper allows for upstarts or traditionalist to post new about fashion.

i have seen one photo of this little girl and she looks old.
her skin, her face, her posture all look like a 60 years olds perched on a child's body.
her blogs are very sophisticated for a child to write..no matter how 'genius' the child might be.
wonder what her parents do for a living?
the wearing an outrageous hat trick..was best done b the late isabella blow and stephen jones or anna piaggi.
to see a 13 year old sitting hunched over devouring fashion..is a little much.
looks like she needs a dose of fresh air & sunshine...and enjoy being a teenager.
sad to say but the teenager might soon find out that the industry was not built on 'charity'
and today's 'it girl' soon becomes tomorrows 'who?' in a nano second.

who knows?...she might be replaced by a 7 year old wunderkid blogger who will call Mr. Lagerfeld..'uncle karl'
