Yes I’m excited about this alice + olivia top and these Gianfranco Ferre gun metal color slacks but what I’m totally digging is this 70s Pierre Cardin leather clutch…. Of course I flipped when I saw the alice + olivia label because it’s rare to find this one in the thrift stores but hey I’m a lucky man!  Launched in 2002 by Stacey Bendet, is a sophisticated brand with a playful sensibility which epitomizes the personality & quirky STYLE of it’s founder.  You know she was nicknamed Staceypants because she would often rollerblade through the streets of New York City in fabulous pants she designed.  I love that!  Gianfranco Ferre was a fashion designer also known as “the architect of fashion” for his background and his original attitude towards creating fashion design.  He died in 2007 and now Stefano Citron & Federico Piaggi are creative directors at this fashion house.  Now comes the Pierre Cardin discussion…. yeah… Pierre Cardin worked for Schiaparelli and then became head of the workroom at Dior in 1946.  He was at Dior in 1947 and helped develop the “New Look” which made Dior’s fame.  Cardin went out on his own in 1950, starting his own couture house.  In 1957 he started a ready to wear line; a bold move for a French couturier at the time.  Probably the look most associated with Cardin was the “Space Age” collection of the mid 60′s.  Starting in 1964, Cardin made some of the most futuristic clothing of the era, with severe A-line mini dresses that featured cut-outs and molded forms, space helmet hats and solid color catsuits.  He also designed men’s suits in the style that became associated with the Beatles.  Starting in the late 60′s, Cardin began licensing his name.  At one time there were over 800 different licenses, I remember in the 70s seeing his name on toilet paper!  Unfortunately this has worked to eclipse the innovative work he did in the 60′s.  The vintage collector will likely find Cardindesigns from the 50′s, 60′s and early 70′s to be most desirable.   You know he designed furniture too?  Really cool and modern furniture that I would DIE to own…. So yes finding a vintage 70′s Pierre Cardin clutch is way cool…  Friend me on Facebook & follow me on Twitter…. be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!
