A Review of Runway Eye Shadow Palettes 2012

This spring, three main eye shadow trends are making their way down the runway: metallics, bright colours, and nude powders with exaggerated eyeliners. Creamy, silvery metallics graced the lids of models for Chanel, Ralph Lauren, and Phillip Lim. Shades of eye shadow reflected skin tone – as if an otherworldly glow emanated from the silver or lunar purple swoops of shadow.

Eye shadow palettes in bright colours were seen across the board, with models from Richard Chai, Miu Miu, and Creatures of the Wind sporting mostly nude faces with these brilliant little bursts. Popular colours were tangerine, turquoise, and yellow. Swoops of colour were applied high and dramatic across the eye.

As far as exaggerated eyeliner goes, the cat eye is back with a vengeance. It’s been updated with a modern twist however, as the lines are extra exaggerated, elongated, and varied. Two ticks instead of one, ticks that run across the cheekbones, or ticks that reach all the way up to the eyebrows. The look was perfected at Jonathan Saunders, Ruffian, and Dolce & Gabbana, for instance.
