A Look at Vintage Military Fashion

Military inspired clothing has influenced fashion for many years with designers and keen fashion followers alike both taking elements of these styles and giving their own interpretation. Season after season, fashion trends seem to have a military flavour whether it is coats, hats, or possibly even scarves.

These fashionable interpretations can be found in many of the high street shops but if you want to be a little more inventive or perhaps want something more authentic, why not seek out an original piece. Military surplus items can be found in militaria shops and even on market stalls but more often than not, these are functional work items and may not be exactly what you were looking for.

Some items of course cross over the functional/fashionable divide such as the fish tail parka. Although used by the American army, this particular parka has gained iconic status largely due to the Mod/scooter scene that adopted it in the 1960’s and is still worn today. Other items that have reached cult status include both the German army parka and the French F2 field jacket.

The German army parka for instance has a timeless look and will withstand the elements due to it being standard military issue. This ensures that you can stay warm while still looking good. The French F2 jacket on the other hand offers a slim, fitted look that is up to the minute and has pockets galore to ensure you have somewhere for your keys and phone. On top of this, vintage military items often have a ‘lived in’ feel to them, which is of course fashionable at the present time.

Of course, to grab hold of fashionable military surplus items it is possible to trawl through the stalls, etc as mentioned above. However, wouldn’t it be great if rather than spending hours scouring various sources on the off chance of finding that essential item, you could simply start your search at a specialist vintage clothing shop?

Retro clothing specialists will probably already have a large range of vintage items that may well include some military items. After all, finding such a key piece as a fish tail parka nestled among the various other antique or retro jackets would indeed be the jewel in the crown so to speak. In addition, using such a specialist would be able to source specific items on your behalf therefore doing the hard work for you if that particular piece was not stocked.

So, with this in mind, before you start your search for that essential vintage military purchase. Remember to take a look at your favourite specialist retro clothes shop. Alternatively, why not look online to see if there is an online shop that can deliver some fantastic bargains from the military world. Find out more at www.devoted2vintage.co.uk.
