The Fashion Industries Favorite Business Network ...

Italian designer Giorgio Armani and South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. said they have sealed a long-term strategic partnership to develop a line of high-end electronic goods. Unveiling the new luxury mobile phone manufactured by Samsung and designed by Armani, the two partners said the cellphone is just the first product under the new strategic alliance. It must be said that Armani is not the first fashion company to get involved with electronics. Although Armani is the latest Italian designer to jump into the highly competitive electronics industry, they are infact following fashion house Dolce & Gabbana and Prada. Dolce & Gabbana had introduced a gold- colored Razr cellphone made by Motorola Inc. and Prada has designed a touch-screen cellphone for South Korea's LG Electronics Inc.
In my personal opinion, fashion designers should have no place in designing electronics. Fashion designers have experience with luxury fabrics, stitching, drape etc. What makes them experts in regard to cell phones and electronics? Certainly, I understand the "marketing" advantages, but as a consumer shouldn't I buy my cell phone based on the functions of the phone and the reception (clarity of calls). Am I really that much of a brand follower, that I need to buy a cell phone with a designer name... Not me..
Now, I nice Armani suit, that is another story.. I am all for designer fashion, just not designer phones.
